Oracle Cloud Supports FOCUS to Level the Playing Field

Date: November 26, 2024 Video: 20-minute watch

Key Insight: Oracle is partnering with other clouds and investing in FOCUS to meet customers where they are.

At FinOps X in San Diego in June 2024, J.R. Storment, Executive Director of the FinOps Foundation, sat down with Phil Newman, VP of Product Management at Oracle, to talk about FOCUS and to ask Phil what he thinks the Future of FinOps will look like.

Oracle recently announced support for FOCUS, so they kicked off discussion by talking about the benefits FOCUS brings, not only to FinOps Practitioners, but also to cloud vendors. Phil believes that FOCUS will level the playing field for new clouds and tooling providers by making it easier for customers to integrate vendor offers into their ecosystems.

Phil noted that everyone is multi-cloud and the walls are breaking down between providers. Oracle is partnering with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud to give customers direct access to Oracle database services running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and deployed in the partners’ data centers.

One of the biggest challenges Phil sees for organizations trying to implement FinOps is securing the right talent for the job. There is a need for more FinOps Practitioners, and for those Practitioners to develop trust with the Finance team.

Oracle’s new FinOps Hub is a one-stop-shop for all FinOs resources that Oracle has to offer. They will continue to add to this suite of tools.
